A historic Hollywood Home sustainably renovated with special attention to color and light.

An original Chinatown-era California bungalow,  this home is said to have belonged to Lon Cheney, mythic silent film star, best known for The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Frankenstein. We recently restored the property and made important updates to bring it into the 21st century.

Dining room & Kitchen: Drenched in a cinematic deep burgundy, the European style chef’s kitchen and minimalist dining room share a bar designed with entertaining in mind.

Living room: An open neutral colored space sporting high vaulted ceilings, with exposed beams and a beautiful hand-plastered fireplace.

Garden: Both Living and Dining rooms share a wide sliding door that gives on to a large deck stepping down into a serene garden. Centered around Chinese Elm and Crepe Myrtle trees, and surrounded by hedges, a green expanse invites children to play, adults to lay out in the sun, and more. The property is surrounded on all sides by greenery … bamboo, palo verde, bougainvillea, etc - immersing the home in a serene poetic vibe. 

Hallway: Gray walls suggest a change of environment, transitioning to the private section of the home. An antique glass pocket door between the kitchen and hallway allows guests to mute sound travel while maintaining visibility.

Master bedroom: Wrapped in wine-colored walls, with a high gloss finish, the walls shimmer with the dappled light filtering through the surrounding bamboo grove. A sliding door off the room is framed by dramatic velvet curtains, and opens to a deck shared with the second bedroom.

Second bedroom: Featuring a custom built-in bookcase and nook, this rooms muted rose-colored walls create a calm atmosphere, perfect for a children’s room or office. The nook is equipped with a desk to accommodate the latter.

Bathroom: Finished in floor to ceiling emerald colored tiles evoking the surrounding bamboo garden, the bathroom features terrazzo floors and chrome fixtures, and includes a double vanity, full size tub, a rain shower, as well as a handheld shower head.
